Scobie Demetrios Kostopoulos

Born shortly after the British liberated Greece from the Nazis, the Karytaina historian Scobie Demetrios Kostopoulos was named Scobie after the Lieutenant General Ronald Scobie who was at the time responsible for the British Forces in Greece.

Scobie has had a life long passion for Karytaina history and he is in the process of writing two new books to be published as one.

Scobie, as well as Giannis Antoniou Antonopoulos, another Karytaina historian, have generously granted Karytaina Ancestry permission to copy and translate selections of their works. Both are self-published authors and their older books are rarely available on the used book market.

Scobie, through his labors, has made many stories and documents available which may no longer otherwise be accessible. Particularly helpful to family historians, is his transcription of the Karytaina Male Register (Dimotologion) in alphabetical order with birth dates from 1843-1907. You can find this in his book “KARITAINA, Α TOMOS” pages 78-108. That particular Male Register appears to have been produced shortly after 1907.
